Based on 35+ years of experience as a therapist, I've learned that my relationship with the client is the fundamental tool I use. Showing my caring, empathy, and acceptance of the client is paramount. As I get to know the client, I utilize various tools, including Cognitive-behavioral, historically-oriented insight, stress-management, transactional analysis, hypnotherapy, assertiveness and social skills training, I share my ideas about the process with the client, which instills hope and promotes collaboration. A sense of humor, whenever appropriate, is good leavening.
