My Approach to Helping

I am an experienced empathic therapist who practices client-centered therapy drawing from a variety of modalities to best suit my client's needs. My training and work as a couples and family therapist, in addition to 25 years as an educational psychologist, has only deepened my respect for the amazing regenerative human capacity to find the way towards self-realization and the restoration of wholeness regardless of perceived obstacles. Together I will work with you to rediscover your own inner resources: acting as a trustworthy guide on your path towards self knowledge and creative renewal.
If any of the following quotes resonate and you find yourself struggling to stay afloat, please call for an initial appointment to explore how I might be useful to you.

"All our lives we search for someone who makes us complete. We choose partners and change partners. We dance the song of heartbreak and hope all the while, wondering if somewhere, somehow there is someone searching for us."

"Grown-ups never understand anything for themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them" (Le Petit Prince)

and two more of my personal favorites:
"Between stimulus and response there is space. In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom" Viktor Frankl

"Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart" Jack Kornfield

More Info About My Practice

I particularly enjoy working with couples in all the varied stages of their relationships and the many complex challenges of staying together or, in rare cases, coming apart.

I work well with children and their parents, drawing on many years of experience, to establish an easy rapport as well as utilizing creative, age appropriate play to do therapeutic work.

I also work with refugees who have experienced trauma.

I have a self-pay scale which is negotiated with clients. My fee varies, taking into account the frequency of visits, the duration of service, and what is financially feasible for the client. Although understandably, financially, many people prefer to use their Insurance, there are some client advantages to not having to work through a third party to receive therapy.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I am passionate about doing couples and family work and have had a lot of experience which keeps me humble and curious about the inner workings of complex relationships. My approach has been influenced by many of the experts in the field and, more recently, by IFS (Internal Family Systems). My own life experience and my work have kept me drawn to continuing to explore the sources of conflict and working together to find resolutions to discord which honor all concerned. I have a natural ability to see many sides of an issue and my training has
increased my ability to help people draw on their own inner wisdom for solutions. Life can be messy and prismatic (multi-faceted) but I have found there is a natural wisdom and hope in peoples' deepest desire for connection that can shine through all of the discord and distancing that can arise in relationships.
