My Approach to Therapy

Welcome! Do you currently struggle with any of the following: anxiety; indecisiveness; low self-esteem; deep, sometimes inexplicable feelings of guilt; confusion around trusting your "gut;" a heavy focus on wanting to make others like you; feeling disconnected from others; a nagging feeling you’re doing something wrong or there may be something wrong with you? The good news is, these are not inherent traits people are born with and you are not bound to eternally struggle with these things! This therapy will give you the opportunity to uncover the root causes of these struggles in order to make changes in the here-and-now. Please click on the "Visit Website" link to find out more about the benefits of this therapy. I care deeply for the people I work with and through genuine collaboration, my clients describe a sense of feeling truly heard and understood. I invite you to email or call today to find out more! *PLEASE EMAIL ME DIRECTLY AT alisonmtherapy@gmail.com AS THE GOODTHERAPY MESSAGING SYSTEM DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE WORKING* Thank you and I look forward to communicating more soon!

My Practice & Services

I work with adults (ages 18 and older) in a private practice in the heart of Arlington Center. My office is bright, warm, and welcoming! As a licensed therapist with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field, I draw from a wide variety of theoretical approaches, including psychodynamic (insight-oriented), cognitive-behavioral (skills-focused), and relational therapies. I believe the right therapeutic relationship makes all the difference in therapy, so finding a therapist you "click with" is crucial.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

My specialty is in difficult family and relationship dynamics (whether or past or current dynamics), with a focus on how those dynamics affect you in the here-and-now. We all grow up in homes with both spoken and unspoken messages. In fact, sometimes the unspoken messages can be more powerful than the spoken ones! You may have grown up in a home with high expectations for success (whether stated or unstated), with a single parent who had limited time or attention, with caregivers who meant well but who were "workaholics," controlling, highly focused on academic success, emotionally unavailable, or in a home where your authentic voice somehow was not heard. Although we may not be aware of it, our backgrounds have a huge impact on our current behaviors, challenges, and relationships even if we have been out of the homes we grew up in for 5, 10, 20, etc. years. Through this therapy, you will have the opportunity to discover how your background may be affecting the way you currently think, feel, and relate to others. These discoveries, within the lived experience of the therapy, can lead to profound shifts in how you feel and communicate with others. And although you may have talked about this topic in therapy before, you may not have actually FELT any shifts; the connection with the therapist is a very important factor in this distinction. These discoveries and experiences will give you the chance to uncover your authentic voice and, possibly for the first time, live life from a place of YOUR choosing. Experiencing life from this place of authenticity can feel exciting and liberating! I invite you to email (or call) today to find out more and schedule an initial session. Taking that first step can be scary so I always strive to offer an atmosphere where you will feel safe and comfortable!
