
Parkinsonism is also known as secondary or atypical Parkinson's syndrome and is a neurological syndrome which is characterized by rigidity, tremors, postural instability and hypokinesia. There are many underlying causes to Parkinsonism. Its most known cause is as a side effect of medication, mostly neuroleptic antipsychotics and rarely antidepressants. Treatment is directed at decreasing and discontinuing the medications which cause it and may include additional medication to manage signs and symptoms.
