My Approach to Helping
Are you interested in actually solving a problem in your life instead of analyzing it again and again? There are lots of therapists who would be interested in exploring your situation and helping you learn from it. However, what most of my clients really want is some practical solutions, not months of analyzation.I practice Solution-Focused Counseling and specialize in couples in their 20's and 30's, especially those who are thinking about getting engaged, having a baby, or going through another life change. Together we will use a 4-step plan that is based on your strengths as a couple and as individuals. My counseling practice is dedicated to de-mystifying therapy and getting you exactly what you want from every session in goal-oriented fashion -- and we usually have fun, too! I am a relaxed, easy-going therapist who believes counseling should be practical and transparent. Is your partner open to therapy? Don't worry if he or she is not. We can begin individually, and nobody has to "sign up" for months of therapy. I hope to be of help to you. Please contact me for a free phone consultation and visit my website to read more about my practice, including monthly tips and advice on all different topics.

I know it is hard to find the right therapist just by reading profiles. Feel free to give me a call or send me an email. I look forward to talking with you!

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

I expect clients to be on the fence about therapy, especially if they have no prior experience (or sometimes because they have had a previously poor experience). It is completely normal to feel weird about going to a stranger's office and talking about personal thoughts and feelings. It is my job to help a client feel comfortable. Sometimes I do this by offering to talk on the phone first. Sometimes we exchange emails answering questions. Most clients get a sense of who I am by visiting my website. I always tell my clients that they do not have to "sign up" for therapy beyond the first session. They can come and see how counseling works. I offer an evaluation form of our session from the beginning so that clients can rate what worked and didn't work for them about the session. It is optional to fill out but my clients find it gives them control over their session to make it effective and worth their time and money. I want sessions to be worthwhile and helpful.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

I hope you will look at several profiles in your search for a therapist. In spite of all the different "theories" and "orientations" that therapists use, research shows that the #1 factor in having a successful therapy experience is how comfortable you feel with your therapist. Please visit my website to learn more about my practice. I am professional but vey easy-going and relaxed. My clients are great people and while we solve problems, we usually have fun, too.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

I practice Solution-Focused therapy, which is a kind of counseling that focuses on using a client's strengths to help address the areas they want improvement. Instead of spending a lot of time on the past and family history, we begin with where you are right now and what you'd like to be different.
