But there is good news?.it is treatable. Postpartum Depression (PPD) is a common illness, which can occur any time within the first year after a birth. Symptoms vary among women, but can include insomnia, loss of appetite, obsessive/disturbing thoughts about the baby, or feelings of panic and anxiety. Postpartum Depression is not the same as "Baby Blues", which most women experience within days of giving birth, and which dissipates within weeks. Symptoms of Postpartum Depression can linger for months, unless treatment is sought. What is known is that with proper professional intervention, women can, and do, recover from postpartum illness.
