My Approach to Helping
Living well has to do with developing the skills and tools needed to face life's challenges. I believe in an individual's ability to adapt to situations though small changes that create lasting change. My approach is a combination of a self-psychology, solution focused, and CBT including Mindfulness-CBT and mindful-eating. I work with managing thoughts and emotions, particularly for anxiety and depression. I am a certified A.R.T. therapist and use this short term intervention for trauma, anxiety, loss, athletic performance or any other uncomfortable or painful memory. I work well with high school and university students and focus on skill building for their future.

I firmly believe in working with individuals from their own point of experience and I work comfortably with individuals of many faiths, backgrounds, and orientations. I appreciate and value differences and new experiences. I am very active in the wellness community and present workshops and groups on mindfulness and mindful eating.

More Info About My Practice
I have 4 advanced degrees. I began as a therapist in 1995 and earned my Doctorate in 2007. I have worked in university counseling centers, in-patient hospitals, and residential programs and with a range of persons and concerns from gifted athletes to at risk youth. I don't provide services in Spanish. Services are fee based. I am not currently a an insurance provider.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I work with individuals around finding their own solutions to life’s challenges. Sometimes those solutions seem out of reach as in the case of abuse, neglect, automobile accidents and combat. I am a certified Trauma Expert though the International Association of Trauma Professionals and I also certified in a neurologically based short term approach to trauma called ART. This approach is currently being studied at the University of South Florida (USF). I am currently a clinical provider for these studies including our current study using ART with Veterans and able to offer this treatment to my clients. I have worked with many individuals who have experienced relief through this treatment. Additional information is available on my website.
