My Approach to Helping
COUNSELING
I am a Holistic Counselor, which means that I consider the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels to address your healing.
My unique background in counseling psychology, yoga and esoteric arts makes me a Holistic Counselor who is intuitive and practical. I am readily open to all possibilities in service to you, and I also have a keen intuition to zero in on what will likely bring noticeable changes in your life.
I am a kundalini yoga teacher and student. This spiritual discipline has shown me more about the universe, myself and our human experience than I can write down. I am thankful because the universal, compassionate perspective it gives me is the foundation from which I work.
Many come to me because they are in some sort of pain. It is one of life's hardest experiences, to live with pain. As hard as it is to go through it, pain is one of the great teachers to awareness. I will hold the space for you to ease into its lessons, and know that pain is not the end. There is much joy to experience yet.
How I May Help You
I provide a safe, supportive environment for you to explore the circumstances that bring you to counseling. I respect your experience and guidance as a collaborator in your therapy. Some of my clients are interested in integrating yoga and meditation techniques into their therapy plan, which work very well with counseling.
Making Conscious Choices
My philosophy of health is different from some conventional psychotherapy approaches that may pathologize behavior. For example, labeling certain behaviors as "wrong" and others as "right." I believe what we do and feel are natural outcomes from the situations we have encountered. How we react depends on the coping skills we had at the time of our experiences, and our individual traits. Deeply exploring our experiences in a therapeutic setting can illuminate the way we engage with them now. These insights often help us understand our behavior, and open doors to new responses that are helpful in living life in relative peace.

How do I choose the right therapist?
Research has shown that the most important factor of successful therapy is the relationship that forms between you and your therapist. Therefore, choose a therapist who you feel comfortable with, who you feel respects and listens to you, accepts you for who you are, and also appropriately challenges limitations so you can grow beyond your current capacity.
How long are psychotherapy sessions?
The initial session is an intake interview which may take 60-90 minutes. It is an opportunity for me to hear your detailed history & present condition, for you to clarify your goals, and for us to see if we are a good fit. We will talk about possible approaches to your goals, and you can ask questions. Thereafter, therapy sessions are typically 60 minutes.
Should you wish to include yoga as a therapeutic method with psychotherapy, the sessions may be longer. (For example, 30-45min yoga with 30-45min psychotherapy).
How often are psychotherapy sessions?
It is typical to meet once a week for an hour at the beginning, to establish momentum on your process of change and build a trusting relationship which is necessary for success in therapy. As things improve, we may decide that you come less often, based on your needs.
How many psychotherapy sessions will I need?
The number of sessions is individual and depends on many factors. Each of our paths is different and operates on its own time. It is advised to focus on what you want your life to look like as you meet your goals, and whether therapy is continually helping you along those lines.
Can I see you only for yoga, or only for energy healing?
Yes.
