My Approach to Helping
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist initially trained in family systems therapy, with additional training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Eating Disorders Therapy. I am also a certified mediator. I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults, although I also treat middle-aged adults. If you have wondered how to find the right therapist for you, I provide a free 15-minute consultation where we will discuss a few short questions that might help you make the best choice. As you are now reading this message, you are already doing the most important step in beginning psychotherapy, and that is doing your search and research, committing to receiving the best treatment and compassionate support you need! You are also wanting change, and change is not easy nor immediate. We will identify the changes you want to make, and we will make a plan that makes sense to us both. It is so important to have a map to know how to get to where you want to go!
Your sessions in my practice will be led with compassion, respect, understanding and ongoing evaluation that the therapy process is working for you. There might be homework for you, in between sessions, to help you think and act a bit differently, when you are interested and in full agreement. It will be a safe arena for you to try on new behaviors and ways of thinking! I also provide training in mindfulness and self-hypnotherapy, to lower anxiety, and to expand awareness of your thoughts and how they are affecting your emotions and actions. Your therapy process will be more than talking on a regular basis; it will be medically-necessary, in-depth psychotherapy with measurable progress and results. I look forward to hearing from you when you are ready to begin!
