My Approach to Helping

You used to love being a creative professional but feel it’s time to re-invent yourself. Again. Maybe you’re feeling it’s time to try something else but anxiety and stress are keeping you from making any kind of a decision. I can help you keep from feeling flooded so that together we can explore what your future could look like. I’ve worked in creative fields for over 30 years, and I am familiar what you’re going through. Whether you are looking to make a change, dealing with burn out, or want to learn how to feel less overwhelmed and anxious, I’ll be there to support you through this challenging time. I have a wealth of experience to draw from to help you feel unstuck, more sure of yourself and less anxious about the future.
I like to work collaboratively, directly and with a sense of humor. Together we’ll identify patterns from the past impacting your life now. We’ll look at what’s working for you as well as what used to work for you but is no longer helping. The therapistclient relationship is key in that it often reflects how you are in relationships outside of the session. I am science based, and will talk about your brain chemistry when you feel anxious or fearful and I’ll teach you skills to reduce those feelings.
Therapy helped me make reclaim my identity, examine my beliefs about myself, and figure out what I wanted the next chapter of life to look like.
I have a wealth of lived experience, which I believe is a great asset for a therapist to have.

I facilitate a therapy and support group "Ageism and the Creative Professional" for people experiencing ageism, burnout and loss of identity. We are now accepting new members.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I spent 30 years as a creative professional and loved it. Until I didn't. I was feeling burned out by the constant need to stay relevant in a 'young' field. I didn't know who I would be if I wasn't the who I had been. I felt lost, anxious and depressed. I had developed tunnel vision and therapy helped me see the bigger world and discover so much more was open to me. It was then that I went back to school and received my graduate degree in clinical psychology at the age of 60. I love being a therapist and helping people who are going through a similar life change. My very active and lucid, 97-year-old father made me realize I had a lot of years left and I wanted to fill them doing something that I enjoyed and found meaningful. I believe age is just a construct and if we ignore the number, we can do great things. It's important to me that older people become more visible, honored for their wisdom and given respect.
