My Approach to Helping
As a Social Worker with over 20 years of experience working in the field of mental health, I understand when a person experiences trauma or life stressors, it is not uncommon for their life to unravel.
Dr. Tina Prelow is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Louisiana and Texas and has over 20 years of experience working in the field of mental health. She is passionate about helping adults, geriatrics, couples, and families to find healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen their relationships. Dr. Prelow specializes in depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship issues, and major life transitions. Dr. Prelow's educational background includes a Bachelor's and Master of Social Work from Grambling State University and an Executive PhD., in Urban Higher Education from Jackson State University. She is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner. Dr. Prelow has worked at a State Psychiatric Hospital, Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic (clinician, program manager, and corporate educator), Mental Health Rehab Agency, and two psychiatric hospitals, where she worked as a clinician (group, individual, and family therapy) and Clinical Administrator, supervising five programs. She is currently employed by Veterans Healthcare Administration. Dr. Prelow realizes there is no single approach that is right for every individual. She has been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Grief Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Trauma Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, and Group Therapy. Dr. Prelow believes helping individuals, who experience mental health issues, is her calling in life. She also believes that just because a person puts on a smile and says that they are "okay," does not necessarily mean they are. She is confident she can give those that are hurting and burdened with life's difficulties a sense there is hope and life at the end of the tunnel. She will support you on your journey to gain new perspectives and techniques that allow you to cope with whatever you may be struggling with.
