My Approach to Helping

From a young age, I've had a desire to understand others, offer compassion, care and empathy to those who've struggled, and I knew that I wanted to carry this into my career. I want to be a part of positive change in our world and to be a piece of light in other's darkness. Through my own personal experiences in counseling, I see how true this could be for someone and I'm passionate about walking with others in their path to healing.

If you've experienced trauma, highly stressful experiences, or challenging transitions in life that are noticing a negative impact of these experiences on your day to day life, your self-esteem, and relationships, you deserve support, and you're not alone.

I want to help you take steps towards healing, increase your insight, grow through the changes in your life, and be the supportive person to walk with you in this process.

I want to be able to share my knowledge and support with you. If you feel stuck or bogged down by past experiences, you can learn to see how resilient and empowered you can be. I truly believe that we are never alone in this world and want to provide that constant and consistent reminder by providing a safe and supportive place to find healing.

More Info About My Practice

Whether you’ve already tried everything or you’re just getting started, you’ve found your partner in healing.

You deserve physical and emotional safety. You may have asked for help in the past and been shut down. You may have had your needs invalidated. You are probably apprehensive, discouraged or even skeptical. We get it. We’ve been there, too. Things are different here, our promise to you is that you will be seen, understood, and valued. Even if you think your feelings are wrong, or your problems are too small, we are here to help you know that they’re not. Nothing that you have done or thought or felt will ever mean that you don’t deserve help and compassion. We’re with you. We’ve got you.

We don’t do things that don’t make sense. When you’re frustrated and stuck in the same patterns that you know aren’t working, but you can’t seem to get out of these cycles, it’s time to reach out. Our culture is focused on behavior and choices, but when your body and mind seem to be overriding your intentions, and your actions are inconsistent with your goals, that’s not because you’re simply making bad choices or lacking self control. It means that your insides are running strategies that were once helpful and they are on autopilot. Something inside of you believes that it’s helping, and doesn’t realize it’s hurting you now. The brain is an amazing survival mechanism and those strategies aren’t linked up with your logic and cognitive skills, they’re underneath your consciousness, and will keep going until we understand why they started in the first place. Once we understand them, we can work with them to update those old processes with new information, allowing them to realize they don’t need to run anymore. They’ve done their job, they’re tired, and they deserve to rest. Settling your mind’s operating system is how you find yourself safely in the present, and see yourself in a whole new light.

The mental health field has made significant progress in understanding the brain and body in the past few decades. The old ideas of therapy are getting an update. It’s not simply about thoughts and behaviors anymore. Recent theories and approaches find deeper meaning behind behaviors offering powerful insights that help you heal.

As a counselor in Chandler, specializing in helping women who’ve experienced sexual abuse, I firmly believe that any sexual assault, harassment, or even unwanted advances from another person is a big deal. I hear all the time, “it’s fine,” nothing really happened,” I’m just overreacting,” or “I am making a big deal out of nothing.” I want every person to know that those statements are ideas and beliefs that the brain creates as a way to make sense of something that doesn’t make sense, a way to cope with the feeling of helplessness, and a way to make something feel okay even though it’s not okay. Accepting the unacceptable can keep us alive during a moment of danger.

Our brain does a great job of coping with the world by putting puzzle pieces together, associating things we do with things that happen to us, this is the ultimate survival strategy. It is designed to make sure horrible things never happen to us again. Oftentimes, we don’t realize it’s still going long after the situation is over. I f you are constantly on high alert, hyper-focused on managing the people around you, and always feeling responsible for making sure nothing goes wrong, then you probably have some old survival strategies running in the background that are using up a lot of brain power and energy.

I want to help you understand what strategies your mind is running in the background. It is time to take an inventory of your brain’s resources and re-allocate capacity from strategies for the past, and give yourself some space to optimize your mind and body in the present moment.

I specialize in helping women who’ve survived sexual assault or harassment because every victim and survivor deserves a safe place to allow themselves to acknowledge their truth and finally heal.
