My Approach to Helping
If you're reading this, you are struggling and want help and relief as soon as possible. This is my goal for you on our first visit, and every single visit I want you better equipped with skills, insight, and feeling more hopeful and confident. Whether you are struggling with something within yourself, or with other persons, we will work together to find real solutions, and build skills you will be able to use for your lifetime!
Life presents each of us with some tough challenges, and in this day and time, it is easy to feel lost in the crowd, bustle, and constant stimulation. Perhaps it has become so overwhelming that you find yourself isolated, or maybe your kid is?
Social anxiety is quite common these days. Perhaps you are looking to learn assertiveness skills, better self-esteem and self-care, communication skills, and how to negotiate and handle conditions of this ever-shifting world. All of these skills can be quite helpful for couples, families with teens, re-blended families, and in the workplace. Splitting up or divorcing? These skills are essential! Bettering these kinds of skills betters your ability to emotionally cope and think about things.
Also, perhaps you are interested in mediation: help from a professional with the dissolution of the relationship or the new normal in a new, re-blended family and post-breakup circumstances.
Depression and anxiety both can lead to compulsive, repetitive thinking or behavior. Help is available now to begin regaining self-control and confidence!

More Info About My Practice
If you're looking for group therapy for yourself or a loved one, you'll find they're hard to come by. I offer groups of different ages, topic focus, and modalities (type of treatment). I typically have adolescent, young adult, and divorce groups running but am open to starting a group of any kind. Simply call and we'll chat about that.
Another big focus of my practice is couple's therapy. You'll experience equal care and concern for each of you! I typically meet with you together, then separately with me, so I can better understand where each of you are coming from, your personality, back story, wants and needs. These things are often difficult for couples to express or find time for with the other in the room. It's a very successful modality for success, but of course many couples choose to work conjointly only, and these have been very successful as well. My point is that you have a choice.
I typically find myself working with family's in situations involving parent-child struggles, and divorcing or re-blending families. Your family may have other reasons to need someone to step in and help with differences of any kind. This almost always involves improving communication and deep understanding. This is where healing begins.
I offer treatment either in person or via video conferencing. This may make sense for you if you have difficulty getting to the office and is available, as with office sessions, each day of the week.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I draw from many theories, because I am going to help you in the most effective way I can along your journey, and those needs of yours will shift and change! I provide therapy for individuals, groups, couples, families, and provide short-term learning groups and workshops, and I work with the court, probation, attorneys, schools, and other medical providers.
Some common theories used include CBT, DBT, assertiveness training, depth dynamic insight, solutions-focused, neuropsychology, family systems, and mediation services. Psychological education gifts you with tools for life!
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
I believe it's the therapeutic relationship we share that really makes the therapy work. You need to feel that your therapist really likes and understands you, and is truly relatable. I hope you genuinely look forward to our visits and learn much each time. I hope you feel uplifted, encouraged, more confident, wiser, skilled, and clearer about goals and steps toward those each visit.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
There are a lot of things a textbook just cannot teach. Yes, this means I've learned many things through really challenging circumstances, and if appropriate to your best interests, I am happy to say that where you are, I have been, too. What one person can get through and thrive anyway, another person certainly can do!
I have gained enormous insight and deep understanding of struggles and that helps us to dive quickly and effectively into challenges, identify what you are feeling, and anticipate likely outcomes of the circumstantial trajectory you are currently on, and change that direction if you wish to!
I tell stories and use metaphors to help you grasp ideas, give compassionate direction, make you laugh, and help you feel "normal" (no matter where you're at)!
