My Approach to Helping

I am glad to be able to provide you with some information about my practice that may help you make an informed decision about pursuing therapy services.

During your initial visit, we will begin our therapeutic relationship and discuss your short-and long-term goals for therapy. Whether you are interested in a few sessions to deal with current life stressors or seeking long-term therapy to overcome debilitating mental health symptoms or past trauma, we will create a treatment plan that will help you to live a more fulfilling life. I take a collaborative approach where you determine your needs and I work with you to address the issues that brought you to therapy while identifying strategies to assist in the healing process.

If you are looking for a therapist who listens to you throughout the session without offering any insights or guidance, I am not that. I am also not one to dictate how you should handle your stressors. You will be listened to during your session. I will ask questions and offer you a number of possible strategies to determine what will work best for you. If you are not comfortable taking the steps that are suggested, it is unlikely that you will use them. I am committed to finding find solutions that feel right for you and that you are likely to commit to.

More Info About My Practice

I take a collaborative approach to therapy. I view my clients as partners in determining goals for treatment and identifying the most effective and comprehensive plan of care.

I work with individuals experiencing a multitude of mental health, substance use, interpersonal issues, and environmental stressors. The close and trusting therapeutic alliance that I build with my clients frequently results in long-lasting relationships that often spans months and years if necessary. This strong alliance results in significant and long-lasting improvement in my clients' lives.

I also work with couples to modify dysfunctional behaviors and to assist them in learning to resolve conflicts in a healthy manner which improves quality of life and deepens their relationships with others. Clients learn effective communication skills that will foster healthy relationships which can be useful in all areas of life.

Additionally, I work with groups of clients who are treated together in a formal yet supportive and close-knit therapeutic environment. Group members realize that they are not alone and they share a sense of togetherness. Individuals in each group are able to learn from and help each other by sharing their experiences and by extending their support network.
