My Approach to Helping
My name is Sonya Stagnoli and I have been licensed since 1992. I have my license as a Professional Counselor and Marriage & Family Therapist in Virginia. I have worked in Community Mental Health as well as private practice since my licensure. I have run Mental Health Centers as well as coordinated large programs over several counties. I was also certified as a family mediator by the Supreme Court of Virginia and have mediated several custody and visitation cases.
I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families. I am certified to work with children through the military and have experience working with military families and all the blessings and challenges those moves entail. I also have experience in working with Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and later deafened individuals, children and families; Christian counseling; working with children; adults; families with stepchildren; folks with anxiety, depressive disorders; grief counseling; preparing for life changes; and career counseling. I am certified as a Stepfamily Counselor.
My educational background includes an undergraduate psychology degree with a minor in Speech and Language; and a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from Gallaudet University, the popular university for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students and Hearing Graduate students. Although I am hearing, I am fluent in American Sign Language.
I am a wife, mother, and step mother. I have a broad experience base. I like helping people navigate through life’s challenges. I am happy to speak with you about what is happening in your life and help you gain a different perspective, as well as developing some solid solutions to the personal conflicts that may arise. People tell me I have a kind way about me, and they enjoy talking to me. Your thoughts and feelings are important and I strive to provide a safe place for you to be able to express yourself. I look forward to working with you in the future.
