My Approach to Helping
If you’ve found yourself here, you might be feeling emotionally tired, maybe even spiritually disconnected, and wondering if lasting healing is even possible. Maybe you've tried to hold it all together for everyone else, while silently unraveling inside. You’ve carried trauma, grief, anxiety, or cycles that seem to repeat no matter how hard you try to break free. If that sounds familiar, I want you to know....you’re not alone, and you don’t have to carry it all by yourself.
I’m Shenera, a licensed associate professional counselor and trauma-informed, faith-rooted healer. My approach integrates mind, body, and spirit because I believe true healing happens when we address the whole person, not just the symptoms. I meet you with empathy, truth, and practical tools that are informed by evidence-based modalities like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and somatic work—but also guided by deep spiritual discernment and a belief that your story still holds promise.
In our work together, we will slow down, listen to your body’s wisdom, challenge the beliefs that no longer serve you, and co-create a path forward that honors both your pain and your potential. I help clients reconnect with their worth, develop emotional regulation skills, and rewire the nervous system to feel safer, stronger, and more at peace.
My clients often tell me our work feels like both a sacred space and a soft place to land. I don’t just listen....I guide, empower, and walk with you until you start to feel like yourself again… or maybe for the first time ever.
You don’t have to have it all figured out before starting. You just have to be willing to begin.

My Role as a Therapist
My role is to be a compassionate guide and safe witness to your healing. I support you holistically, mind, body, and spirit, while honoring your pace, your goals, and your lived experience.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
I believe that healing begins with relationship and the therapeutic alliance is at the heart of that process. In my work, the connection between client and therapist is not just clinical; it is sacred. I honor the courage it takes to share your story, and I view our relationship as a container for safety, truth-telling, and growth.
When we feel seen, heard, and understood without judgment, our nervous systems begin to soften. Trust allows the body to release long-held tension, the mind to open to new insights, and the spirit to reconnect with purpose. That is why I prioritize attunement, transparency, and collaboration from our very first session.
As a trauma-informed, faith-integrated counselor, I also understand that many clients have experienced betrayal, abandonment, or invalidation in other relationships, even within prior therapy. For that reason, I move at your pace. I listen deeply. I ask for consent and invite feedback regularly.
I believe the therapist is not the healer, but the guide. You are the expert of your experience. My role is to walk beside you, hold the lantern of truth, and offer tools, wisdom, and spiritual insight as you navigate your own path toward healing.
When the alliance is strong, transformation becomes possible.
My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
I believe that many of the symptoms we pathologize as ?disorders? are actually responses to trauma, unmet emotional needs, generational patterns, and environments that failed to nurture safety, identity, and truth.
Rather than labeling individuals as broken, I view these experiences as invitations to deeper healing. Anxiety, depression, dissociation, and even addictive patterns often carry messages from the body and spirit-revealing where a person has had to adapt, survive, or shut down in order to protect themselves. These responses are not signs of weakness but evidence of strength, resilience, and a nervous system doing its best to cope.
In my practice, I work to remove shame from the healing process. I do not reduce people to diagnoses. Instead, I hold space for the whole person.... their pain, their purpose, their past, and their potential. Whether rooted in emotional neglect, spiritual rupture, or systemic oppression, each ?disorder? is a part of a larger story worth exploring with compassion and curiosity.
I also honor the connection between spiritual misalignment and somatic symptoms. For many, the root of their struggle is not simply clinical, but also spiritual- a disconnection from their true self, their Creator, or their inner peace. I welcome those conversations without fear or judgment.
You are not your diagnosis. You are a soul in need of restoration and I am here to walk with you.
