My Approach to Helping
What is the story you\'ve been telling yourself about who you are? We all carry around messages about how good we are, how worthy of love, how capable, how strong. Often these stories have outlived their usefulness but we have come to believe them as unchangeable truths. What would it be like to believe something new? I can help you explore how old patterns and beliefs might have served you in the past but could be getting in the way now of the changes you\'d like to make.
Low self-esteem, fear, doubt, and anger can all keep you feeling stuck - as a partner, as a parent, as a young person trying to make a shift into adult life. I can help you tune in to what you really want and become aware of how you may be keeping yourself from getting it.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
It is a shame that this profession has adopted the medical model of diagnosis and illness rather than one of wholeness and wellness. While I understand that some people find comfort in knowing that others suffer in similar ways as they do, I feel that it can be a disservice to view one's suffering as an illness to be quickly solved. All of the behaviors we have come to embody were, at one time, creative adjustments to situations we found ourselves in. If it was unsafe to show emotions, for example, then making the choice to keep feelings hidden to others was appropriate to that time. As we uncover how it is we have come to be the way we are now, we can better evaluate whether out behaviors are still necessary and still effective and make informed decisions about whether or not to change and ask for the support we need to make our choices.
