My Approach to Helping
Your experience with depression, anxiety or trauma is different from anyone else’s. That’s why, above everything else, I listen so I can better understand your specific needs in a safe, judgment-free environment. Then I tailor therapy to fit your strengths and unique needs. With 13 years’ experience in social services, including 7 in adolescent, adult and family therapy, I’m prepared to help you, your child or your other relationships thrive. While I’m trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness, I’m especially passionate about using Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing to help people better process traumatic experiences. I enjoy building therapeutic relationships with individuals, teens, couples and families in a positive, compassionate environment. And I look forward to helping you draw on your inner strength to improve the connections in your life!
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Child, Adult and Family Services from Iowa State University, where I also worked as milieu staff in a residential treatment facility. I have a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Iowa. During that time, I conducted in-home work for the Department of Human Services, where I gained an intimate knowledge of the child welfare system. My therapy experience includes working at Orchard Place Residential Campus as a Therapist for residents and their families. I’m currently an employee of UnityPoint Counseling and Psychiatry clinic where I provide individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, and adults at UnityPoint Norwalk Family Medicine Clinic.
I’m a licensed independent social worker (Iowa) and a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
