My Approach to Helping

Hello, I am Sandra Miller, RN, LCSW, LMFT, CHC. I have been a nurse for many years, working in hospitals on medical, surgical and oncology units, and coronary and medical intensive care units. Later in life I pursued my interests in mental and relational health care and I have been a Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for more than 10 years. Three years ago I completed the training to be a Certified Health Coach. I am a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marital and Family Therapy and a member of the National Society of Health Coaches.

I am an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and provide clinical supervision to Marriage and Family Therapist Associates who are working towards the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) designation.

I take a whole-person wellness approach in my therapy practice. As a Registered Nurse and a licensed therapist, I can speak the language of the medical establishment, and understand how physical illnesses also affect emotional and relational functioning. I strive to collaborate with clients to help them achieve their individual and relationship goals, manage stress, balance the personal and professional parts of their lives, rediscover fun and creativity, and develop new, healthy habits towards improving life satisfaction.

My intention is to create a practice that is welcoming and supportive of all, and does not discriminate on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, race, class, ethnicity, religion or spiritual practice.

My office is open Tuesday through Friday, and I have evening appointment hours available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I may also provide therapy sessions via a secure, HIPAA compliant internet based platform (web cam) for clients in Kentucky.

    If this is your first time considering therapy you may not know what to expect or how therapy can help. Some people think that therapy is just talking about your problems, but it is much more than that. As a therapist, I listen intently as my clients share their thoughts, concerns, feelings and beliefs about their problem. Then I help them prioritize and set goals to focus the work, and identify and apply solutions that make sense for them. This process may be brief, as few as one or two sessions, or may take months, depending on the severity of the problem. Some of the ways I can help as a therapist include:
