How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I've been there, and I get it.
While at the top of my field, working with celebrities and high profile individuals for some of the most influential brands in the world, I developed a degenerative bone disease. The majority of my early 30's were confined to a bed and I was left with a couple artificial hips, a couple of fused vertebrae, a few degenerative arthritic joints, and a world of constant chronic pain.
You could say I found my situation depressing. Waking up each day was a struggle and getting through the day was even harder.
Through the power of therapy and help from others, I was able to find inherent strengths which empowered my resilience to not just continue on, but to thrive, and create a new life with purpose, and meaning. Although my personal experience could be used for inspiration, I found it necessary to expand my knowledge on resilience and the human spirit, dedicating my life and time to learn the intricacies of clinical psychology, psychotherapy, and behavior. I went on to receive my degree from Pepperdine's Graduate School with honors while studying the science and art of psychotherapy under some of the leading current pioneers in the field. My post-graduate studies have been focused on Narrative Therapy's effectiveness in redefining who we are and am one of the few people Comprehensively Trained? in the evidence based effective strategies of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
