My Approach to Helping

It seems like life has a way of wearing us down with the problems and difficulties. Sometimes it is a marriage or relationship that is frustrating and hopeless. How did it get here when we started out so 'in love'? It might be the challenges of parenting: it didn't seem like it was going to be this hard when we brought them home from the hospital or adoption agency. Maybe it is feeling overloaded at work, discouraged by the place in life, or dealing with a loss that is so hard to get through.

Whatever the problem, I believe there is hope. I don't have all the answers, but I am willing to walk through the problems with people to help them find the solution. Even when it seems to be the darkest, I have hope, enough for both of us. Feel free to lean on my hope and we can find the path. I tend to be directive. I want to understand the situation and then help strategize the plan to move ahead. Typically, there are skills to learn and habits to change. I help hold people accountable to their goals, encouraging them toward the goal.

I know how difficult family relationships can be, but I also see the joy they can bring. . I am passionate about being a husband and dad, and that carries into how I help people. I enjoy watching couples and families grow and develop the relationships they want.

When I’m not in the office, I enjoy time with my family, making music, camping

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I have struggled with depression and anxiety, survived a couple serious health problems and been through financial crisis and numerous career changes, some that weren't optional. I lost my father at a difficult time in life as well as working through the normal difficulties of being married 26 years and raising four kids, two of which are now adults. It is because of the difficulties that I believe I am able to be more compassionate and encouraging with others. I am far from perfect and typically people see someone willing to share the struggle with them. Maybe they can see the joy that can follow the pain that comes with the adversity.
