My Approach to Helping

Welcome! My name is Naomi Kimmelman. I am a psychotherapist (LMFT) licensed in California and Hawaii. I draw upon over 15 years supporting people through the challenges of life. I became a therapist because I am awed and humbled by the range of our human experience and the profound nature and resilience of the human heart, mind, body, and soul.

I best support people who identify with at least two of the following:
1. Are a young, middle aged, or an older adult (age 18 - 100+).
2. Have never had therapy before.
3. Have had therapy and are experienced with mental health topics, but are looking for a new or different approach. Especially, if you want to go deeper, learn about holistic tools and perspectives, gain understanding, insight and clarity.
4. Relate to the experience of at least one of the following: Anxiety, depression, going through or preparing for a life transition or change, are having relationship challenges (with partners, friends, parents, other family members, children or co-workers), grief, loss, or the death of a loved one, have had trauma(s) or been in hardscary situations, are exploring your identity and who you are, want to increase your self esteem, self confidence and get over guilt, shame and imposter syndrome, heal from past hurts or work towards a vision of your future self.
5. Identify as a student, a new therapist, or a helping professional including but not limited to: teachers, first responders, medical professionals, healers, and activists.
6. Have a spiritual inclination, connection, values or religion that is important to you.
7. Are creative or love and appreciate nature.
8. Come from a diverse cultural background, heritage, have an expansive identity, or identify as first generation, indigenous or have moved internationally.
9. Alternatively, are white, cis-gendered or heterosexual.
10. Have a desire to learn, grow, heal or experience something new.

I offer a comprehensive yet practical approach to therapy and personal development. People describe me as having a warm, deep, empathic, authentic, and collaborative approach. You will find me to be whole person-centered, compassionate, holistic and integrative. By utilizing a range of tools, techniques, therapeutic orientations and modalities that I’m trained in to best suit your particular needs and desires, therapy will be curated uniquely for you.

I often use elements of: Jungian Depth and Psychodynamic therapy, Transpersonal, Humanistic and Existential therapy, IFS, Gestalt, Somatic, Mindfulness Based, Brainspotting, CBT, DBT, ACT, Trauma Informed, Expressive Arts therapy, Eco-Psychology, Emotion-Focused, Solution-Focused, Gottman Couples Therapy, Attachment Based, Interpersonal, and Multicultural therapy.

It can also be important to incorporate community and cultural contexts in therapy to help you engage in authentic and deep work. I welcome people of all faiths (including atheist), identities, abilities, genders, sexualities and cultural backgrounds.

Whether this is your first time seeking therapy or you've experienced therapy before, it can be quite a process. Because of that, I offer free 15 minute consultations that can support you in clarifying and figuring out what you are looking for, and who or what might serve your unique wants and needs best; whether that's me or another provider. It's a big step to seek support. I honor your courage in taking a stand for yourself and what's important to you. More Info About My Practice

I am currently seeing clients online by video or phone. I see clients located all over California and Hawaii. I also offer therapy intensives, or guided self retreats individualized to fit your needs and desires so that you can do a deep dive in a more concentrated session. This might look like setting up a 2 - 4 hour block of time to go through an extensive therapeutic process. It could also be designating a set number of sessions (6-8) for example to work on something very specific. Please reach out if you are interested in this service.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I love being a psychotherapist because I believe in the power of our experiences and innate goodness and wisdom to transform suffering. I feel blessed to get to draw upon my passions for art, psychology, spirituality and nature to support people to engage in authentic, healing and deep work. Working with a range of ages from children to elders, I find that each stage of life comes with a unique set of challenges and gifts.

I believe that in bringing consciousness and intentionality to the important moments in our lives we can create a life that is profound, beautiful, deep, connected and meaningful. Helping people to recognize, reflect on, integrate, heal and celebrate these moments is what I do.
