What's My Approach to Therapy?
I work with individuals across the life span using a relational, collaborative and non-directive approach. My goal is to empower others and help them identify dysfunctional relational patterns, recognize behaviors that are no longer working and to explore new options for living. As relational trust deepens in a safe therapeutic environment, the healing process begins and creative energies are released. My approach, while informed by attachment and psychodynamic theories, is fundamentally client centered and respects your own innate growth process. I also utilize expressive arts and sand tray when appropriate to facilitate your process. My hope is to empower you to feel more in control of your own life and to make positive choices.
My Practice & Services
My fee is $140 per session but I offer a sliding scale fee structure that can slide as low as $50 per session based on individual circumstances and income level. I no longer accept insurance but can provide a paid invoice for you to submit directly to your insurance company if you wish to seek reimbursement from them. Check with your insurance company to learn what their policy is regarding out-of-network providers.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I have helped many individuals suffering from substance abuse and other addictions to find their path towards health and sobriety. This process requires courage and is not easy, often involving relapse and discouragement. My focus is on helping you to overcome shame and self recrimination and to create self awareness, understanding and curiosity about what can be learned from your experience, both bad and good, in the recovery journey. I also support with patients suffering from chronic or terminal illness and at helping people to navigate the painful waters of grief and loss, assisting them to discover strength to carry on and to envision life beyond loss.
How Psychotherapy Can Help
I enjoy helping individuals and families through times of transition and crises. Children react to distressing situations in their environment over which they have little or no control and play therapy gives them a symbolic language with which to express themselves. I help parents understand their child in this context and explore with them how to better meet both their own and their children's needs, providing emotional support and also practical information to help them meet the challenges of parenting.
