My Approach to Helping

I work collaboratively with children, families and individual adults to help them grow beyond old, dysfunctional relational patterns, to recognize behaviors that are no longer working and to explore new options for living. Healing occurs as relational trust deepens in a dynamic but safe and non-judgmental environment which frees your own healing process and creative energies. I enjoy working with people of all ages and utilize a client centered approach informed by psychodynamic, attachment and relational theories. My hope is to empower you to feel more in control of your own life and to make positive choices. Due to the pandemic, I currently see clients via phone and virtual sessions.

More Info About My Practice

Recognizing that people in emotional crisis often are also experiencing financial difficulties, I have a sliding fee scale between $50 - $130 based on your income level at the time of our initial interview. I am an Anthem Blue Cross provider. I cannot bill other insurance companies directly but will provide a paid invoice for you to submit to your company for reimbursement.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have helped many individuals suffering from substance abuse and other addictions to find their path towards health and sobriety. This process requires courage and is not easy, often involving relapse and discouragement. My focus is on helping you to overcome shame and self recrimination and creating self awareness, understanding and curiousity about what can be learned from experience, both bad as well as good, in the recovery journey. I also assist patients suffering from both chronic and terminal illness and help people to navigate the painful waters of grief and loss, finding strength to carry on and ways to cope and to envision a new future.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

I enjoy helping children and families through times of transition and crises. Children react to distressing situations in their environment over which they have little or no control and play therapy gives them a symbolic language with which to express themselves. I help parents understand their child in this context and explore with them how to better meet both their own and their children's needs, providing emotional support and also practical information to help them meet the challenges of parenting.
