My Approach to Helping
My goal as a counselor is to provide a safe, comfortable environment to build a trusting relationship with my client. I am flexible for each individual client. I value the ability to listen to a client without any predetermined goals of my own. The client goals for treatment are determined by the client or a collaboration between the counselor and client that is acceptable for each client. I hope to guide a client toward progress through personal exploration and encouragement. I hope to focus on client strengths and understanding personal value of each individual client. I value compassion and kindness in my approach to counseling.
I have spent time working with clients with substance use disorders at an outpatient treatment facility. I have learned that exploration with a client's past may be an effective way to help a client understand why they may have chosen a specific pathway through life. I believe a client is an expert on themselves, no one else knows you the way an individual knows themselves. The only way I am able to better understand you is to listen to you and hear your story. I would appreciate the opportunity to work with you toward hope and healing for your life.
