My Approach to Helping
I provide Christian and Biblical-based counseling and work from a Person-Centered, Positive and Strength-based approach. I believe that relationships can be a primary method of healing and I focus on forming a trusting "team" approach with the clients that I work with. I find satisfaction in helping my clients to overcome past trauma, feelings of low self-worth, depressionanxiety or problems from their family of origin, such as Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN). I specialize in working with children and offer Parent Coaching using evidence-based approaches. I use child development and attachment to overcome extreme behaviors and to help parents to attune to the needs of their children. I believe that one of the best ways to help children to grow into healthy adults is to help their parents. In addition, I am a PrepareEnrich facilitator to assist both engaged and married couples to improve and thrive in their relationships.
More Info About My Practice
At this time I accept insurance United Healthcare insurance but have mainly private pay clients. This policy allows most clients to maintain control over their health records, the duration and frequency of treatment. Insurance companies often require a diagnosis that suggests an illness to be treated instead of a problem that requires solutions. I support a "wellness" approach that seeks the help of a therapist for overcoming challenges or struggles in life.
I accept cash, checks, credit cards and Health Savings accounts for the convenience of my clients.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
Like everyone, I've had my share of life's problems. Some have been the luck of the draw and others have been of my own making. Before becoming a therapist I worked as an Early Childhood Educator for 20+ years and loved working with children and families. I saw and experienced first hand how powerful counseling could be for myself and for the families I worked with. I became a therapist when health concerns made it clear that I needed to find a new way to work and following my dream has been rewarding beyond my expectations. I know what it means to overcome difficulties and find ways around barriers that made me want to quit. I have used my life experience to understand, help and support my clients in ways I couldn't have when I was a younger person.
