My Approach to Helping
I am a National Board Certified Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with 14 years of clinical experience in the mental health field. I have provided behavioral health care services across a spectrum of populations in a variety of settings including: a residential psychiatric rehabilitation treatment facility (PRTF), the Department of Corrections, the family court system, Drug and Young Adult Courts, military installations, schools, outpatient and community mental health, as well as privategroup practice. I work with individuals; families; couples and groups affected by existential and a wide range of mental health issues.
I am a teaching counselor who draws from my background in Education, utilizing best practice counseling approaches that are evidence-based, empirically, and ethically sound. I am trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, transactional analysis, solution-focused brief therapy, and positive psychology, often combing the former to improve therapeutic outcomes.
I strive to create a safe, relaxed, judgment-free space in which clients feel inclined to share, discuss, plan and actualize. I describe therapy as: “the two of us on a boat; you are the captain steering the vessel and I am the passenger navigating only when needed.”Wherever you are on your journey, I am willing to join you in exploring the possibilities.
