My Approach to Helping
To everyone around you, it looks like you have it all together – the job, the relationship, friends, trips – but inside you know it’s a different story. No one quite knows the real story, and if you were to tell them they wouldn’t understand. There may be a nagging feeling of deep loneliness, perhaps even a feeling of you putting on a daily show while inside you feel a constant tension. Between shutting down and rushing to make up for wasted time, you find yourself overwhelmed, frustrated, hopeless, and lonely under your own skin. You wake up each day to start the same cycle yet again. At some point, you realize breaking the cycle is needed. After all, this is not a dress rehearsal, this is your life.
I offer an opportunity to work collaboratively and create an environment where you can open up and share. We’ll explore your concerns, fears, and hopes and work together towards a more balanced and peaceful life. My style is conversational, active, down-to-earth, compassionate, and humorous at times. My commitment is to deeply listen to all the different parts that seem to be pulling you in different directions, and help you find ways to understand, clarify and attend to the needs of those parts. Together we make sense of where you've been and where you want to go from here. We’ll review deeply held beliefs and old blueprints that may need to be updated for the life you want to live.
I am formally trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I see people through a holistic lens, and I believe emotions play a crucial role in guiding us through life and pointing at our deepest needs. My approach is also grounded in neurobiology.
Life will undoubtedly throw us curve balls, and at times our sense of identity and security are temporarily taken away from us. It is normal to feel lost, confused, unsure of your choices, hopeless, and stuck. As our society encourages and provides more ways to focus on the external world, engaging in a process to explore your inner world and how it relates to your outer world is a radical, brave move. If you have parts of you ready to take that first step, I encourage you to reach out. I promise we will take care of the parts that doubt there is any hope for change, as well as the parts that are nervous about therapy.
