My Approach to Helping
My approach to working with children, adolescents, and families, is to assist you and your child in exploring areas of difficulty in order to promote your emotional connection. Children and teens' behaviors are often attempts to express their inner emotional experiences. My goal is to help you and/or your child learn skills for expressing emotional experiences in more effective ways that will allow you to deepen your connection and that will promote growth within the child and within the family unit. Together, we will explore how past experiences contribute to current difficulties, and develop new modes of understanding yourself and interacting with others in your life. While much of my work takes place with children, adolescents, and families, I also have experience and enjoy working with adults in individual therapy.
More Info About My Practice
Continuum: Mental Health and Wellness is a group practice located in Glendale Center near Broad Ripple. I provide psychotherapy services to children, parent-child dyads, adults, and families, as well as psychological assessment services for all ages. Psychological assessment is useful for clarifying diagnosis, treatment planning, and providing recommendations to parents, schools, and other providers. If you wonder if you or your child have ADHD, learning or intellectual difficulties, or whether emotional, personality, or behavioral factors might be contributing to your current experience, testing can assist in answering these questions.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I have experience working with children in foster care or placed with relative caregivers, children who have a history of exposure to trauma including physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence, and neglect, as well as emotional or behavioral disorders, anxiety, and neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., ADHD, learning difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorder). I also have training in early childhood development and early intervention.
My Role as a Therapist
I believe that therapy can only be successful within the context of a safe, secure, and trusting therapeutic relationship. As such, I strive to develop a strong relationship with each individual with whom I work. I am committed to providing a space in which you feel understood and will be comfortable exploring difficult emotional experiences and developing new skills. I will meet you exactly where you are and we will work together to explore the areas you identify as being of primary concern.
