My Approach to Helping
My approach to counseling is warm and collaborative. It is important to me that you feel comfortable and that you feel you can trust me. I work to create a safe and calm atmosphere for you in my office. I will usually ask you about your goals for counseling and how you hope counseling may help you. From there, we will develop a plan to work together.
I have a special interest in neuroscience and understanding how the brain and body work together. I think helping you understand why something is happening in your body and helping you understand how the techniques I teach you may help is very important.
I also emphasize good self care and wellness. Our mental health is truly affected by our physical health and vice versa. Because of this, I usually work closely with primary care doctors, psychiatrists or other professionals to treat all aspects of your health, if necessary.
I also like to focus on a person's strengths because, not only do you have them, but your strengths are key in helping you throughout the counseling process and key in helping you to stay well, both emotionally and physically, in the future.
