My Approach to Helping
I am a Marriage and Family intern that specializes in how our relationships with those that are close to us affect our own lives and vice versa. While this approach is helpful for families and couples, it is also very effective for individuals because we are all connected with families that we affect and that affect us (though these families are sometimes chosen). As a therapist, I primarily utilize Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy to help clients learn about themselves and break away from their problems. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a method of therapy that helps us identify and separate the various 'parts' of ourselves that make up our inner life. Getting to know these parts can help us understand how we function and become the leaders of our own lives. Narrative Therapy focuses on the stories that we are told and that we tell ourselves, working to create narrative that support us rather than shame us. Emotionally Focuses Therapy primarily utilizes attachment theory and is the main approach I use when working with romantic partners or familial relationships.
