My Approach to Helping
The decision to seek treatment is not an easy one because the therapeutic process requires you to share your experiences, emotions and concerns with someone whom you've just met. I'm aware that this is often what makes people hesitant to attend therapy and I am hopeful that my personality as a therapist will help you to feel comfortable enough to participate in sessions with me. I am passionate about my profession as a Licensed Professional Counselor and I'm dedicated to helping adults and young adults find balance in their lives and happiness in their relationships.
My approach to your treatment is to use my training and experience with dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help you learn skills to be more present in your life, cope with emotions more effectively, manage distress, and maintain healthy and fulfilling relationships. I facilitate DBT group therapy sessions.
As a therapist, I am empathetic, genuine, and respectful. I bring a sense of humor and warmth to sessions. I incorporate realistic examples to help you understand the skills being presented and I encourage participants to share their own experiences.

What makes a DBT group different from other therapy groups?
DBT sessions are spent learning skills rather than processing experiences. The skills taught during group sessions are practical and can be applied to everyday situations. The term dialectical refers to the idea of opposing forces both being true and possible at the same time. DBT interprets this idea to be a balance of acceptance and change in an environment that is both validating of past experiences and feelings and challenging to promote growth and incorporation of new ways of coping.
When does the group meet and what does my commitment to treatment look like?
The DBT Skills Group meets weekly and participants must attend for a 6-month period of time in order to fully grasp the skills being offered. Participants are also expected to be seeing an individual therapist weekly while in the group as the group is less about processing daily stressors and more about learning the skills. The individual therapy may be provided by me if space allows or provided by an outside therapist.

What is the cost per skills group session?
My cost per session is $70. Payment is due at the end of every session by credit card which is securely stored on a HIPPA compliant electronic medical record portal via Simple Practice.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
I first developed my love of therapy through my personal work in treatment. I learned Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills in a group environment, not knowing that someday I would come to teach these critical life skills to others. I originally wanted to pursue art as a career; however, I was drawn to therapy as I felt I could help others the way I was helped.
