My Approach to Helping
Elise Angelos is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has worked in clinical mental health and addictions in both outpatient and residential settings. Elise's primary areas of counseling are anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, and substance abuse. Elise’s counseling philosophy involves being empathetic, nonjudgmental, and strengths/wellness-based while empowering clients to utilize helpful thought patterns and coping skills to manage their problems and stressors, and to make positive changes in their lives. She believes that everyone is capable of positive change, and of working toward their goals. Elise values the alliance between counselor and client as one of the most important parts of therapeutic success, and she hopes to facilitate a positive connection where the client feels safe to share and explore their thoughts and emotions. Elise’s primary theoretical orientation is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She integrates aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Humanistic theories into her practice. Elise works with individual adult clients to promote psychological flexibility and positive coping strategies, and facilitate commitment and action towards living a valued life.
