My Approach to Helping

I believe therapy should be practical, actionable, and skills-oriented to help you get the best results and achieve positive lasting change as quickly as possible. As a client-centered therapist, I value and integrate each client’s preferences and goals in the therapy process.

My therapeutic approach is informed by Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy (inner child parts work), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Gottman Couple's Therapy, and InterpersonalRelational Psychotherapy, among others. I am trauma-informed and have received specialized training in trauma treatment as well as ADHD coaching. I am additionally certified as a Kundalini yoga instructor and have also completed extensive research and clinical work with Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, which is a gentle approach that emphasizes the health benefits associated with cultivating deeper awareness in the present moment through grounding, relaxation training, meditative exercises, and mindfulness more generally.

Above all, my work is inspired by neuroplasticity and the potential it holds for learning and transformation in us all. What that means practically is that I provide education about human behaviour and brain functioning to help clients make sense of their experiences and see their challenges from a normalizing, non-judgmental, compassionate view. Many clients find this information to be very helpful, hopeful, and empowering, as it gives us a roadmap for resolving their issues.

More Info About My Practice

I’m designated as a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) in good standing with The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and able to offer services throughout Canada and internationally. I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Victoria, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from McMaster University with a Specialization in Cognition and Perception. I’m currently completing my doctor of psychology (PsyD) at California Southern University. My doctoral research is on ADHD, trauma, and attachment, which has provided me with a specialization in the interpersonal neurobiological treatment of ADHD and trauma. I am additionally interested in diversity and culturally sensitive practices and have training in this area.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

I believe that working from a client-centred, individualized approach is essential in fostering meaningful life change and growth through therapy. I view each client as an expert in their own lives and value and integrate each client's preferences and goals in the therapy process. I aim to help clients develop skills they can make their own to effect positive lasting change.
