I feel that the connection you have with a therapist is one of the most important factors in being able to feel safe, comfortable, and cared for in order to work on personal issues and make yourself vulnerable to bring about healing and change. For this reason, I strive to provide a compassionate, attentive, and warm presence in therapy, whether it's your (or your child's) first time ever trying Counseling, or you're a pro at it and have seen many therapists throughout the years. I have been able to successfully help my clients because I combine my 15 years of professional experience, my own personal experiences with overcoming challenges, and my passion for helping people. There is nothing more rewarding than watching children, teenagers, young adults, and families get through the tough times so that they can live happy, peaceful, and quality lives.

More Info About My Practice

I am a strong believer in tailoring Counseling to meet individual needs of my clients. I provide flexibility in the length of sessions, the setting in which you are most effectively helped, and the techniques and tools that we practice in order to best help you. For example, I offer one on one sessions, group therapy, and family sessions, so that I can meet varying financial needs as well as varying needs for support and treatment focus. In addition, I offer 90 minute and 2 hour sessions when appropriate, because sometimes a full hour session is just not enough. I love working with college and graduate students and therefore offer reduced fees for students when needed, and I am able to provide sliding scale fees on a limited basis so that you can afford to get the help that you're seeking. Please let me know if you need to discuss the fee. I am an out of network provider and I'm happy to provide you with a receipt of services (Superbill) so that you can submit it to your insurance company if you have out of network benefits and would like to try to get partial reimbursement for the services.

You may feel that you have personal issues that you would like to discuss with me privately, in which case individual counseling would be a great option for you. Some people really appreciate and benefit from an hour that is solely theirs. You may also have a specific goal in mind and want the support of a group in which others can relate to your struggles; group therapy could be a great option!

I also use a combination of treatment modalities to meet your individual (and family) needs. One size does not fit all in therapy. Call for a phone consultation if you want to chat before making an appointment.

My Role as a Therapist

I see my role as a therapist as being rather fluid. As I already mentioned, I do not believe in one size fits all when it comes to therapy. At times you may need me to be an ear to listen to you, or you may need me to be your cheerleader. At other times, you may need some specific tools, techniques, and suggestions of different ways to deal with a situation, or ways to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, or life dissatisfaction. I am happy to provide those as I work on assessing your needs, strengths, and challenges.
In the beginning of therapy, I tend to listen to my clients\' stories and what brought them to therapy in order to get to know them personally and figure out how I will best assist them in developing and meeting their goals. Sometimes people feel very nervous about coming to therapy, so I strive to help them to feel comfortable and able to open up to me. I realize that building trust between us is very important for both of us in the relationship between a therapist and client. I encourage my client to be as open and honest with me as possible about their personal concerns and also about any concerns with me as their therapist. I see therapy as an opportunity to practice skills that can be used in the real world, so if you are shy about expressing your needs in your life, by all means let me know when you are unhappy with something that I have said or done so that you can have a chance to practice these skills in a safe environment.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

My own struggles throughout life, the lessons I have learned, and the tools and resources that I have personally experienced and benefited from translate to recommendations and insight for my clients. I consider myself a work in progress, as I think we all are. I am willing to share about some of my own struggles during sessions, if it is appropriate at the time and with the individual that I am speaking to.
As far as personal struggles specifically, I struggled as a child with being very shy and socially anxious. I felt very uncomfortable with participating in school and got extremely anxious when I had to do a presentation, or even answer a question, to be totally honest. I have also struggled with being able to live in the moment and get out of my head. I was much more negative than I would like to admit, and my thoughts often raced with worries about regretting things I had already said, analyzing situations to death that were already in the past, or stressing about the future. Mindfulness has been a huge help with all of these issues and has really opened my eyes to another way of living that is filled with moments of gratitude, calmness, joy, and peace rather than worry, insecurity, and negativity. Passing on these lessons and skills is extremely rewarding and fulfilling now. I am grateful for my life struggles for making me the person and therapist that I am today.
