My Approach to Helping

PRACTICAL HELP. RESULTS ORIENTED.

30 years of professional experience with Couples and Individual Adults has taught me that most people want to clearly understand what's wrong, and know what to do about it, so they can make changes for the better. I'll help you identify what needs changing, develop an improvement plan, take action, follow through, and get results.

Author, Why Men Don't Get Enough Sex And Women Don't Get Enough Love (Simon & Schuster), and Losing The Weight Of The World (DoubledayBerkeley).

Specialty: Couples and Individual Adults.

Couples: I've been married over 30 years, know the secrets to success, and can help you be successful too. Clearer communication, and greater emotional and physical intimacy. My Therapy Focus

For over 30 years, I've focused on helping individual adults and couples have happier lives and more satisfying relationships. My focus is to work with you as an ally, helping you make changes for the better, using a results-oriented, practical, straight-forward style. We'll talk about the challenges confronting you, the problems causing you frustration and other negative emotions, and figure out what to do about these issues. The first step is to clearly understand what's wrong and then to know what to do differently about them. We'll develop a game-plan, a way forward to resolution of conflict, toward greater satisfaction and happiness.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

Everyone is unique, so there can be no precise one-size-fits-all answer to how long it takes. However, the way I work is the first session is for 90 minutes, during which we discuss the challenges, difficulties, issues that made you call for help. During that meeting we go over some background information and start to piece together a clear understanding of what needs improving and how to best make changes for the better. I usually meet with people on a once-a-week basis in the beginning, and in time meet every other week or monthly. How quickly this happens depends on the problems and patterns involved - life long patterns are harder to change than shorter or more circumstance-based problems. My goal is that on leaving the session, you feel that it was very worthwhile, a great investment of your time, effort and finances. Once the issues that brought you are resolved or in the process of greatly improving, it's clear to us both that we should cut back or stop meeting. I never ask for a commitment, but prefer that we meet as long as you feel that our meetings are valuable to you. It's your life and your decision how long to continue.
