I am passionate relationships and so I love working with couples and families in therapy. I specialize in treating couples who have grown apart and feel disconnected. These couples be struggling with infertility, the stress of being a parent, or may have trouble communicating. They may also be reeling from the impact of an affair and struggling to trust one another. I also work with couples who are not only disconnected emotionally but sexually and want to get that spark back and regain the passion in their relationship. Other couples I work with are coping with a spouse dealing with depression, PTSD, anxiety, or postpartum depression and looking for ways to support their spouse through a rough patch. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy with couples which is backed by research to be an effective method for improving the satisfaction and feeling of connection in a relationship. This model is grounded in attachment research which is at the core of relationships and my framework for therapy.

Another passion of mine is working with those impacted by adoption of foster care. As an independent contractor with MN Adopt I am eager to work with families touched by adoption whether at the beginning of the adoption journey in the thick of it, or with adult adoptees who are navigating relationships and identity concerns. I use an attachment approach with adoption and love to include parents in the process of therapy to foster a secure bond (relationship) between parent and child. I am familiar working with behavioral concerns in adoptees, grief and loss, adjusting to life transitions, discipline concerns, transracial adoption, open adoption, adoptees who have been through emotional, physical or sexual abuse or abandonment/neglect. I am also experienced working with depression, reactive attachment, separation anxiety, generalized anxiety, PTSD, and oppositional behaviors in adoptees.

I love working with Teens and Children in Therapy and often use artistic or creative techniques as well as play therapy. I enjoy including parents and families in sessions with teens and adolescents and welcome family members to join in and rally around the individual in therapy. I am passionate about working with depression, divorce, anxiety, ptsd, survivors of trauma, perfectionism, sibling conflict, parent - child conflict, issues with boundaries, "helicopter parents" and letting go of the reins and preparing to send teens off to college.

My Therapy Focus

As a Christian, I enjoy working with individuals, couples, or families who practice in the Christian, Catholic, and Jewish faiths. I am familiar with the unique ways in which your faith may impact your life, mental health, and relationships. For those who desire the inclusion of faith in therapy I am happy to support and encourage you to use your faith as a support and tool to seek restoration in relationships or emotional healing. I will let you set the tone and I will follow your lead for how you would like faith to be included in therapy, it is important to me that I refrain from being "preachy" so I look to you to bring your faith into counseling session as you see fit. While I am passionate about the integration of faith in therapy, I am not a pastor and do not perform pastoral counseling, nor do I turn away individuals who espouse other belief systems or do not ascribe to a belief system.
