My Approach to Helping
Do you... ...want to be happier in your relationships? ...feel uncomfortable connecting with others? ...have trauma in your background that is still troubling? ...suffer from phobias? ...have a general sense of anxiety and/or depression? ...want to train for peak performance? Are you... ...less assertive than you'd like to be? ...having work-related stress? ...Grappling with questions of meaning and purpose? ...adjusting to life changes? ...seeking to remove creative blocks? I help individuals and couples seeking therapy for these and many other reasons. My psychotherapy practice is rooted in a holistic approach, encompassing mind, heart, body and spirit. This means that whatever the content you bring to our sessions, we pay attention to how it is manifested in and maintained in four primary ways: your thoughts and beliefs; your emotions; your body sensations and patterns; and whatever spiritual framework, if any, you rely on. Holism also means that you have an innate wisdom that guides your healing. In therapy, we access and utilize this inner knowledge.
More Info About My Practice
As a therapist with a great deal of experience, I utilize an integrative approach which draws from many different orientations and techniques. Together, we decide which elements are most interesting and comfortable for you. Several of these include: *creating a safe environment where you can discuss your concerns free of judgment and discover what you need to solve your problems and heal what is troubling you; *a relational approach, which means that we look at how we connect as a mirror of your other relationships, and gives you a chance to work through your common dyamics in a safe environment; *Hakomi, a mindfulness-based approach which deeply explores the somatic/body aspects of your issues; *EMDR, a technique which can more rapidly resolve issues of trauma, phobias and negative core beliefs. It can also be used to change habits such as smoking or overeating, as well as for peak performance training; *Lifespan Integration, another method for resolving trauma and its after-effects; *Expressive Arts Therapy, which utilizes drawing, writing, movement, sculpture, collage, drama, and/or voice to explore and resolve issues; *Guided Visualization and Dreamwork, which engage our unconscious mind to help us deepen our self-understanding and come up with creative solutions; and *Meditation, which relieves stress, focuses the mind and calms the spirit. I enjoy working with adults of all sexual orientations and ethnic/cultural identities.
