My Approach to Helping

Free Initial 30 Minute Consultation. Searching for a therapist can be overwhelming. It's great that you've come to this site. If you feel like you're ready to make a change in your life and approach the world in a new way, then please read on. In therapy I work closely with clients to bring about lasting and deep change. Together we uncover obstacles and patterns learned from childhood. Observing the self and questioning assumptions will help you to see new perspectives and change the shape of your world. Because relationships begin to shift, often clients report back to me that they feel better and more positive. Others notice that they seem different and happier. I work with clients on many issues and a specialty is creativity. I'm a published short story writer, I have a MFA from Sarah Lawrence College and I have taught writing classes at New York University as an Assistant Professor. I help clients balance writing and art with the other areas of their lives and remove creative blocks so that self-expression occurs more organically. I want you to feel passionate about your art and yourself. Are you functioning fine but want to do better? I work with many clients who are overachievers but find day-to-day life vapid and they feel empty. I will help you to uncover more meaning and joy so that life feels richer and you feel fulfilled. I like to think of my treatment as a combination of two philosophies: Abraham Maslow and Victor Frankl. In regard to Abraham Maslow (Motivation and Personality, 1954) first, I consider how a client's hierarchy of needs are being met or unmet, things as basic as staying alive to feeling safe, having friends, giving something to the world, personal growth and a wonderful aim: self-actualization. Then, drawing upon Victor Frankl's (Man's Search for Meaning, 1984) philosophy that people thrive when they have true meaning in their lives, I help clients uncover this too. What brings meaning to your life? The fee for an individual 50 minute session is $85. A sliding scale is always available for those who require special consideration. Accepting new patients: limited, but some space still available. Will provide receipt to present to insurance for possible reimbursement. Please check with your insurance carrier for details. Free initial consultation. Credit and debit cards accepted.
