My Approach to Helping
With the right person, therapy can be collaborative, creative, and life changing. It can help with acute problems or long-standing issues. My approach attends to past and present circumstances, thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and the body. In my view, people are naturally vibrant and healthy. However, our access to that vibrancy often becomes blocked as we are forced to adjust to life's challenges. As a result, we are left with feelings of sadness, anger, fear, anxiety, emptiness, and loneliness. Sometimes these problems can also manifest themselves in our bodies and in the way we move or breathe. I work to help people gain clarity into how and why they have lost access to meaningful parts of themselves and move towards a life that feels more connected and alive.
More Info About My Practice
When we are forced to find ways of coping on our own we often reach towards substances or experiences that temporarily mask painful and confusing feelings. Early trauma and/or neglect can leave us not knowing how to cope, who to trust, or where to turn for help. Often, we do not receive the guidance and support around how to manage these feelings from the adults in our lives. Overtime, the substances that once provided us with relief stop working and we are back to where we started-with painful and confusing feelings. I can help people learn new, healthier, and sustainable ways of moving through feelings and dealing with difficult situations.
In my work I combine aspects of Gestalt Therapy, behavioral therapy, and body-centered Reichian Therapy. My style has been described as active, engaging, comfortable, and collaborative. I offer a sliding fee scale, and am happy to bill insurance as an out-of-network provider.
