Thank you for this article! It is truly a work of genius, I can tell that you really know what you are talking about. I wonder, could lead toxicity lead to some of these disorders?

A long article. Mostly accurate about most of the facts but the tenor of the writing is a bit cantankerous. If criticism of DSM is the main theme is the main point, then no arguments there - it is lousy, indeed. But why the attack on an innocent pill? Is it pill's fault that doctors don't use it properly. Would you blame a knife for cutting butcher's finger or the butcher who never mastered the skill?

Let me quote you with some mild variations to demonstrate weakness of the argument:
"...Proponents of antiasmathic drug treatments like Albuterol contend that these drugs are safe and effective at treating symptoms that would otherwise disrupt a child’s ability to inspire, and to expire. While antiasthmatic drugs may be “effective” at reducing wheezing and improving respiration in some children, these short-term gains come with serious short-term and long-term risks. Most readily observable are the side effects, which can include nervousness, tremor, tachycardia, insomnia, headaches, stomachaches, dizziness and vertigo..."

In fact, you can write in this ponderous style about any medication. BTW, what are " serious short-term and long-term risks"? Ritalin has been on the market for more than 50 years and I've been prescribing it for the last 20. What serious long term effects we should be aware?

If the author wants to blame society or media for "corruption of american mind" then go ahead, be my guest. I am not in business of treating the society but my patients who come for help. That help I generously provide earning respect and gratitude of the patients and their families.

The problem of ADHD is painfully real and if the author has a better PRACTICAL remedy, I will happily applaud the effort.

I think some research into why this is an American phenomenon would lead to a better understanding of the problem and a possible solution to it.

Everything that I have ever read about the high rate of ADHD in this country and relatively lower rates elsewhere always points to the poor American diet and lifestyle that we lead. We do not take pride in the right things. We are way too concered with having our kids over involed and always being on the run to take the time to cook healthy meals and set a healthy example for them. Our kids are tired and stressed, eating junk food way too much- it is no wonder that ADHD mainfests itself more than what is typical here.
