My Approach to Helping
Hello. Perhaps you are feeling lonely, stuck, or overwhelmed.
Maybe you have a partner who does not understand you.
Do you want to incorporate your spiritual life and values in therapy?
I would be glad to talk with you about your dilemma to see if I can help. A great therapy experience can have a significant positive impact on the problems you come with, and your general quality of life.
First, I listen and ask questions, so you and I sense we understand your basic concerns. My priority is to identify and build upon your strengths, which are often hidden by current stress or historical problems. I feel comfortable treating a variety of difficulties including basic unhappiness, feeling helpless or stuck in a situation, feeling depressed or anxious, or feeling lonely. I have worked with couples on many different kinds of communication problems that have threatened their relationship.
I am the author of "The Breast Cancer Notebook: The Healing Power of Reflection." For 20 years I have provided individual and group therapy for women with cancer and their families. Like other life changing illnesses, cancer clarifies what is important in life, and shows you how strong you actually are. I have learned a lot about life from cancer survivors and their families.
My strongest passion and greatest source of learning has come from my long time Zen meditation practice. This informs my simple compassionate therapy approach, whether or not you are a meditator. If you have a spiritual life and you would like to incorporate it into therapy, we will. I am experienced working with meditators, particularly from the Buddhist and Christian traditions.
I look forward to the chance to talk with you.
