My Approach to Helping
I am a therapist and coach who helps people seeking relief from life's challenges and those seeking to live better, fuller lives. Sometimes, people want to change troublesome life patterns. In other cases, they seek to focus on specific areas such as workcareer, anxiety, depression, stress, substance abuse, anger, self-esteem, relationships, grief or concerns about aging or sexuality. Left untreated, these issues may "take over" our lives and reduce our ability to truly enjoy life.
I also specialize in a few areas. Work stress, professional development and career issuestransitions are a focus for me. Work consumes a large portion of our time and strongly influences our self-concept. Prior to becoming a psychologist, I was a business and technology executive. This practical experience provides a unique perspective into the challenges, opportunities and stresses in my clients' lives.
In addition, I specialize in working with clients with health and wellness concerns. I can help if you are struggling with adjustment to a recent diagnosis, trying to manage a chronic illness, or want to improve your overall health and well-being.
More Info About My Practice
I am a compassionate therapist and coach who works in an open and direct manner. Many people entering therapy are anxious, so I seek to create a warm, relaxed and collaborative environment for our work together. Together, we will better understand the challenges you face and identify and build on your strengths to help you feel better and achieve your goals. Contact me for a free initial consultation. Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work
For therapy, I integrate different theoretical orientations based on each client's needs, goals, preferences and personality. Our approach will also consider the specific challenges you are facing. I generally use elements from Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral approaches to treatment. I use cognitive behavioral techniques to immediately help reduce the impact of any troublesome symptoms or roadblocks my clients are experiencing. The goal is to help you feel better and make progress sooner. I also apply psychodynamic techniques so that we can better understand what underlies your concerns and issues. We explore how the issues originated and how they are sustained. This allows us to make long-term changes and improve your happiness and ability to be successful in the world. I find this "two pronged" approach to be extremely effective.
For coaching, we will identify those areas you would like to address, set goals and priorities, break problems down and define a path for you to incrementally reach your goals. Coaching is a collaborative process meant to leverage and further develop your strengths, and help you develop new skills and abilities so that you can reach your potential and achieve success in your life.
