My Approach to Helping
Stephanie Richardson is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist who has 6 years of experience in the mental health field. Stephanie's clinical experience includes helping children (aged 5-12), teenagers (aged 13-18) and adults (aged 18+) to develop coping mechanisms and make lifestyle changes to better manage symptoms and difficulties associated with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, trauma, substance use, etc. Stephanie completed both herBachelor of Science (BS) in Psychologyand her Master of Science (MS) in Counseling Psychologyat Frostburg State University.She maintains professional certifications as a Clinical Depression and Mood Disorder Treatment Professional and as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Stephanie'sgeneral counseling approach is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which challenges clients to examine their thinking patterns and identify how they influence emotional and behavioral responses. To assist clients in the best way she can, Stephanie also draws techniques from other theoretical approaches such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and motivational interviewing. Stephanie's goal is always to create a safe, accepting, and comfortable environment, which can foster growth in self-awareness and self-acceptance and help you feel empowered in the therapeutic process. She believes to make lasting progress in therapy, it is important to establish a strong therapeutic relationship with you through genuine understanding, empathy, and unconditional positive regard.
