My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
I believe a therapist's office should be a comfortable place where you can talk about your life. A place where you can find solutions, improve your relationships and feel better about your life. Your therapist is there to support you, guide you, offer you options and invite you to look at additional issues that should be addressed.
I want you to leave EVERY session knowing that you have learned something about yourself and you are stronger, better.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
I believe all of us have beauty inside us, and we are doing the best we can. And at the end of the day, all of us want to be loved and listened to, we want to feel safe, happy and connected. That is my guiding philosophy. I back that up with a lot of training and experience. I want to offer techniques and solutions that are known to work. So I read a lot and keep up with the current research, to offer you the best information.
My Role as a Therapist
My role as therapist is to take you where you want to go. You tell me what you want to change, and I will help you change it. I will be your cheerleader, your sounding board, your mirror. I offer you information, techniques, and solutions that you can use immediately.
In addition, we explore your self-care, your thoughts and your feelings. There are typically several issues contributing to why you are seeking help. My role is to help you feel safe enough to voice them, so we can move towards dealing with them.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
If you aren't sure about going to therapy, please take a risk and come meet with me twice. Tell me up front about your mixed feelings. Let me show you smooth it can be. Two sessions -- it can make all the difference to you.
Had a Negative Therapy Experience?
If you've been in therapy before and it didn't feel right, please don't give up on trying again. Lots of things could have messed things up back then -- the therapist and you weren't a good fit, the timing wasn't right, things were too raw for you to look at back then. Please consider finding another therapist. This time, you know what to look for and what to avoid.
A part of you knows it would be good to find a therapist or you wouldn't be reading this right now. Please follow your instinct and call. If you need a baby step first, you can set up a free consultation with me. Let's meet so you can feel sure about trying therapy again.
