My Approach to Helping
I am a fellow traveler on the path of healing. My own healing process informs my work as therapist as much as my different trainings have taught me. We cannot escape our past, but can use its teachings to open up our present and future. There is a wise person and healer within the limits our trauma has imposed upon us. Finding that inner resource is my vision for anyone choosing to work with me.
More Info About My Practice
I am an out-of-network provider for any insurance plan that offers out-of-network benefits. I am a provider for CT State Insurance for anyone who is Husky eligible or has Charter Oak insurance. I believe one of the most important aspects of the therapy relationship is the fit that one feels with the practitioner. It is important to feel that you are sitting with someone who you can trust will be sensitive and caring with your most vulnerable places while offering understanding and guidance through the painful and frustrating places where you feel stuck and lost.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
When I was young I had decided that despair was the human condition. I didn't realize that those things that we encounter (beginning with our in utero and birth experience) influence how our brain, body, emotions, and perception of self and others develop. I couldn't see beyond my own internal experience at twenty and interpreted life through the filter of my history. It was life altering to begin to learn that we are fluid and changeable and can heal and transform our narrowed perceptions of life's possibilities. We can in fact shape our destiny beyond what seems stuck, immutable, and limited.
With an understanding of how environment, life experiences, and hard-wiring can coalesce into the patterned ways we learn to live, how to shift the patterns becomes available to us. Having the possibility of helping others achieve what I have experienced in my own life is like winning the lottery. It is so tremendously gratifying to share and witness someone feeling a change occurring in their brain and body. It is so empowering when one can experience their own internal shifts. These internal changes can produce a ripple effect into one's life making relationships easier, hard times more manageable, a clearer sense of how to effect changes in one's world, and the possibility of feeling joy and gratitude for the beauty that is a part of life.
It was good to learn that despair is not THE human condition but a physiological and psychological experience that can unlock.
