My Approach to Helping
Are you LGBTQIA+, large-bodied, or living with chronic illness and dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD? Are you a therapist dealing with burnout or mental/physical illness? For marginalized folx, the intersection of identity, oppression, and health issues are complex. For therapists, you're likely feeling stretched and burned out under the combined weight of life and work. Others assume we have it handled and we feel we should too. I (mainly) serve therapists, large-bodied, and LGBTQIA folx with anxiety, depression, burnout, PTSD, and chronic illness. HOWEVER, I welcome folx of ALL identities struggling with chronic illness or PTSD to please reach out!
If you are marginalized due to body size, gender identity, sexual orientation, or health conditions, I will help you get the clarity and skills you need to be authentic, heal, and cope. I also provide letters of support for gender-affirming medical care. For therapists, I will help you feel heard, get relief, and feel re-energized at work and home. My primary modality is Person-Centered Therapy; you will be driving your own treatment. I formally trained in CPT for PTSD treatment and DBT. If you need a DBT program, please seek a group clinic. As a solo therapist now, I use DBT to teach useful life skills. I use a blend of many other therapies to tailor your treatment. I take time to get to know my clients and avoid prescriptive advice. I strive to create a safe space so you can open up.
I believe we all have the inherent ability to grow, change, and solve our own problems. But we do not do it in a vacuum. I think the mixed (or sometimes downright unhelpful) messages we receive from loved ones and society can cloud our ability to cope and problem solve. This is especially true if you are marginalized by society or if you are a struggling therapist who is expected to be self-sufficient and invincible. My specialties align with my life experiences and identity, so you will be in good company. We often just need a helpful person with whom to talk it through, someone to help us tap into our authentic selves and internal wisdom, and someone who can suggest skills and resources specific to us.
