My Approach to Helping

Welcome! My practice philosophy is that we all have inherent worth and value, and possess the ability to heal. Therapy allows us to identify the negative beliefs that were created from traumatic experiences, and transform them so that our inner and outer experiences change in the ways that we desire. It all starts within.

Most mental health symptoms can be traced back to trauma; it’s not what's wrong with you, but what has happened to you. The effects of trauma can last for months, years, or a lifetime. When there is trauma, negative beliefs are created, inhibiting our ability to function fully, affecting the way we view ourselves, others, and the world we live in. We may feel that if we could just "push through" or bury our symptoms and memories, that is enough, until it isn\'t. In the beginning of therapy, we focus on symptom relief with self-care, coping skills, and boundary setting - then, going further and healing the trauma, if desired.

Reaching out for help with life’s challenges is one of the most important things one can do for their long-term health and well-being. I walk with you, never judging, and always supporting you with your goals.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Life is challenging for us all, to greater and lesser degrees. One thing I fully understand as a therapist is that I cannot meet a client at a place that I have not gone myself. It doesn't mean we have to have struggled with the exact same issues, but rather the ability to be vulnerable and examine oneself is a key component of empathy and compassion. I have done my own trauma therapy and understand the process as both a client, and a therapist.
