My Approach to Helping

If you are weary of dieting, yet terrified of eating and...

-are tired of counting calories and tracking points, but don't know what else to do?
-obsess about food constantly
-cannot tolerate one more night of overeating or binge eating
-eat when you are stressed out, upset, lonely, or bored
-hate getting dressed in the morning
-wake up hoping today will be a "good" day
-talk to yourself in really hurtful ways

At some point, deep down, you realize that you just can't go on another diet, yet you don't know what else to do. You feel stuck, scared, and out-of-control. Resist the "quick fix" and diet traps that you know don't work and cause harm to your physical and mental health.

I'm Michele Smith, founder of The Runaway Fork and National Board Certified Counselor. I help people who are weary of dieting, yet terrified of eating, learn to eat with freedom and confidence again. Certified in Intuitive Eating and trained at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, I have worked with many people over the years to heal their relationship with food and body so that they can finally develop the life of their dreams.

Change your relationship with food and change your life!

You will ...
-feel satisfied eating what, when, and how much you want according to your own inner needs and preferences, not some one-size-fits-all diet plan
-increase your energy, time, and money to invest in the pursuits that matter to you most
-improve your relationships because you've developed better boundaries and self-care rituals
-create balance in all areas of your life so you can respond to the needs of your body in a timely manner
-gain confidence in your body to dress with ease and go out there in the world
-cope with your emotions without using food
-feel empowered with increased self-esteem, optimism, and life satisfaction
-fulfill your true potential and share your unique gifts with the world

It's time to discover what you are really hungry for and develop a life you love!

My Therapy Focus

The Runaway Fork offers a powerful blend of Psychological Counseling services combined with Intuitive Eating principles to heal teens and adults in New Jersey and New York who struggle with food and body. Let's face it, we all turn to food for so many reasons that have nothing to do with hunger.

Stress, work, kids, our moods, thoughts, and relationships all affect how we eat and care for ourselves. Understanding these connections, instead of focusing on weight alone, is key to discovering the life you really want.
