My Approach to Helping
I view the problems people have in their lives as developmental in nature. This means that at certain times in a person’s life they can expect to face certain challenges that may require that they seek counseling in order to address them.
I approach Mental Health Counseling from a Person-Centered and Cognitive Behavioral orientation. I approach Substance Use Counseling from a Motivational Interviewing and Harm Reduction orientation. I believe that you have the right to choose what is best for you. As the client, you will be able to direct the course of your treatment. You will also set your own goals for the counseling process and will be allowed to determine what services you need to meet your goals. During your sessions, you will be treated with the respect and unconditional positive regard without judgment of what you “should” or “should not” do. I am here to listen and help you discover resources within yourself, through personal relationships, and in the community in a way that best meets your personal needs.
This approach requires that you be honest as we discuss your needs. Remember your goals and objectives will be the focal point of our session.
