My Approach to Helping
I offer short and long term psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and maritalcouple counseling using a great deal of humor and compassion. Patients can derive benefits from one or two sessions, or they can come for a longer period. Sessions are 45 minutes for individuals, and 60-90 minutes for couples. I am not strictly bound by any particular psychotherapeutic approach, but rather I tailor sessions to the specific needs and abilities of my patients. Therefore, no two patients ever receive exactly the same therapy.
More Info About My Practice
I don't take most insurance, though I am happy to provide patients with an invoice they can use to submit for reimbursement to their own insurance. I believe that psychotherapy is not luxury, but a necessity and a right. Therefore, if insurance does not cover and my full fee is a problem, I am happy to use a sliding scale fee for those who require it.
My Role as a Therapist
This is an extremely difficult question. The role of the therapist varies hugely from patient to patient depending upon the patient's specific needs. Sometimes the therapist enables a patient to see (and therefore deal with) what had previously been unconscious. Sometimes a therapist helps the patient to integrate past events or childhood in general with their present. What is more generally applicable is that the therapist always provides a safe and gentle environment where any issue at all can be explored, understood, and dealt with. The approach may vary, but the destination is always greater self-knowledge and understanding, and more effectiveness in dealing with life's challenges.
